Rosacea

Rosacea – Washington, D.C.

Rosacea is a common inflammatory disease of the face - particularly affecting the nose, cheeks, chin, and forehead. Rosacea is a chronic disorder and usually lasts for many years. Typically, flare-ups alternate with periods of less activity. Flares coincide with stressful events and hormonal fluctuations. Over a period of time, inflammation gradually "scars" the skin, produces permanent redness of the face, particularly the cheeks and nose. The exact cause of Rosacea is not known. It is definitely known not to be contagious, but there is a family pre-despositionie; genetic factors are often involved. The skin disease maybe associated with an inflammation of the eyelids known as blepharitis. Rosacea is treated by Dr. Melda Isaac in Washington DC and surrounding areas. Although there is no cure for rosacea, its appearance can be dramatically reduced.

If you want to clear your face of redness and bumpiness, schedule a rosacea treatment consultation at the MI-Skin Dermatology Center today.

Rosacea Treatment

While it cannot be cured, rosacea can be controlled and its progress arrested through medication, Vbeam laser, Intense Pulse light laser and lifestyle changes. The progression of rosacea can be slowed by avoidance of activities or foods that lead to a flushing response, such as:

  • Emotional or physical stress
  • Heavy exercise
  • Extremely hot temperatures
  • Ingestion of alcohol or spicy foods

Although avoidance from things we all love and desire to do is quiet impossible all the time, the appearance of rosacea can be dramatically reduced with vascular-specific laser treatment such as VBeam laser and Intense Pulse Light. Typically, 3-5 sessions of treatments at 4-6 week intervals will lead to significant reduction in the facial redness, pore size and overall appearance of the skin.
