Wearing a mask is the “new normal” in the COVID-19 era, so our eyes play a more important role in our appearance and expression than ever. Like many people, you have probably noticed more cosmetic eye concerns now that your eyes are in the spotlight. If this is true for you, rest assured: My Washington dermatology practice offers plenty of treatment options for rejuvenating all the areas of the face your mask doesn’t cover.
In this blog post, I’ll share a few of my favorite treatments for brightening and refreshing the eyes, all of which require little to no recovery downtime.
Crow’s Feet: Neuromodulators
Neuromodulators, such as BOTOX®, XEOMIN®, and Dysport® smooth away crow’s feet by relaxing the muscles around the eyes responsible for squinting. Because your muscles won’t contract as often or as intensely after treatment, the lines around your eyes will fade.
The same is true for frown lines (the “11s” or vertical lines between your eyebrows) and horizontal forehead lines. Injecting the products directly into these muscles allows the overlying skin to become smooth and unwrinkled.
In the hands of an experienced injector, BOTOX and its sister products won’t make you look unnatural or frozen. See examples of the results you can expect in our before-and-after photo gallery.
Dark Hollows: Dermal Fillers
Do you always look sleep-deprived, even when you’ve had plenty of rest? You may want to try dermal fillers in your tear troughs. These injectable products fill in hollows to reduce sunken dark circles under the eyes.
While makeup products temporarily cover up some darkness, tear trough filler adds volume just below the skin to create an evenly contoured surface. The effect is a brighter under-eye and a more well-rested look overall.

Under-Eye Bags: Dermal Fillers
If you have puffy fat deposits in your tear troughs rather than sunken hollows, dermal fillers may still help. Fillers disguise bags under the eyes by adding volume to the areas surrounding them. This approach blends the bags in with the rest of the under-eye area, turning the clock back on your appearance.
Drooping Brows: Neuromodulators
When an expert precisely injects neuromodulators such as BOTOX, your eyebrow position can be lifted to open your eyes for a more awake and rested look and achieve a more symmetrical balance between your left and right eyebrows.
Thin Brows & Lashes: Microblading & LATISSE®
Because our eyes convey such a large portion of our emotions when we wear masks, it’s important to make sure they are attractively framed and defined.
Microblading sculpts and shapes your eyebrows by etching semi-permanent pigment into your skin. The results look just like natural brows and last for about 2 years.
LATISSE is a prescription eyelash growth medication that develops longer, thicker, and darker lashes to enhance your eyes, even without makeup. See examples of LATISSE transformations in our before-and-after photo gallery.
No matter the treatment you pursue, it’s essential to work with a board-certified dermatologist who will not only safely perform your treatments but also provide personalized recommendations for treatments that will help you achieve the look you desire.
