Washington DC non-surgical coolsculpting

Liposuction is a common body contouring procedure that removes unwanted fat from the body. For many decades, liposuction was considered the best way contour fat in the body. As technology advances, new techniques are being discovered to improve the body without the need for a scalpel. CoolSculpting allows for the body to be modified in a non-invasive way without surgery.

What is Liposuction?

Modern liposuction techniques involve the use of thin devices called cannulas that removes excess fat from the body. The body is then contoured into a more desirable shape. Liposuction is ideal for patients concerned about ridding their bodies of stubborn fat bulges that are not responding to diet or exercise. While not a weight loss procedure, liposuction can help slim down fatty areas of the body and provide natural looking results. Normal activity can be resumed anywhere from several days to several weeks afterwards. The final result will be evident anywhere from one to six months after surgery, although the patient will see noticeable difference within days or weeks, as swelling subsides.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting works to remove unwanted fat from the body through a method known as controlled cooling. Unlike liposuction, CoolSculpting relies on a sucking device to freeze and destroy fat cells which allows for the procedure to be noninvasive. Because the treatment is performed in office, it only takes about an hour and most patients are able to do work while the process is being performed. There is no downtime and patients can resume their normal daily activities once the treatment is completed. Once the fat cells have died, your body absorbs them naturally and expels them, leaving the trouble area with a tighter appearance. The results are best seen in 2-4 months compared to a noticeable difference in days with liposuction.  This procedure is entirely free of downtime, anesthesia, and surgery.

Liposuction or CoolSculpting?

While the outcomes are considerably similar the procedures are very much different. Understanding what procedure will work best for one’s body and lifestyle is key to deciding what body contouring procedure is best. In general, if there is a large problem area to be contoured and there is time to recover, liposuction is the best procedure. For patients who do not want to undergo an invasive procedure, CoolSculpting may be more ideal.
