Unlike other areas on the face that can reap the benefits of exercise, a healthy diet, and a few shots of Botox, a double chin has been notoriously difficult to remove without surgery. Fortunately, men and women looking to lose the excess flesh can now benefit from a new FDA approved injectable cosmetic treatment called Kybella.
How Does Kybella Work?
Kybella works by dissolving the hard to eliminate fat (submental fat) under the chin. The first minimally invasive double chin reducing treatment of its kind, Kybella is made of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring fat-absorbing substance in the body. When injected under the chin Kybella destroys fat cells and produces tighter skin and a more contoured and defined jawline.
In addition to cosmetic concerns, dealing with a double chin can cause social anxiety and embarrassment that can negatively affect quality of life. According to feedback from participants in several Kybella studies, as many as 70 percent of participants reported physical as well as personal and emotional improvement after treatment.
How Long Does An Injection of Kybella Last?
Two to six treatments about a month apart typically yield the best results. Each treatment session lasts approximately 20 minutes, and consists of 12 to 20 mini-injections of Kybella.
Patients typically begin to notice results four to six weeks after treatment, and a round of Kybella injectables can produce results that last for several years. As a minimally invasive treatment, patients can expect some swelling and bruising after treatment that typically fades after three days.
